Abstract

|
Hypertrophic pachymeningitis is a chronic inflammatory disorder of cerebral meninges. The symptoms are diverse and headache is the most common symptom. Infectious diseases and autoimmune diseases including rheumatoid arthritis can result in hypertrophic pachymeningitis. Currently there is no established treatment regimen, but recently several cases treated by high dose intravenous steroid followed by long-term oral steroid therapy have been reported. We report a 72-year-old female of hypertrophic pachymeningitis associated with rheumatoid arthritis first presenting with headache, and had been treated with oral steroid therapy.
